  • How I’m Incorporating Spring Pieces Into My Wardrobe Early

How I’m Incorporating Spring Pieces Into My Wardrobe Early

Oh winter weather how I am so over you. I think it’s nice before Christmas and all, you get a bit of snow and everyone is off their heads with excitement ‘It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas’ and all that…Then January comes along, it seems to get even colder and I am well and truly, completely, over it. Such a positive note to start a blog post on, but who is with me here?

It’s not often I feel obliged to focus an entire blog post solely on the subject of clothes these days (as we know I like to chat about other things on my brain and rather share my outfits in the photos) but it’s actually something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately.

I really do think the way you dress can affect your mood and whilst I’m mostly a happy person, I’ve began to feel a bit ‘meh’ about my current outfits of late. Whilst a winter wardrobe can be exciting, there’s only so many times I can go out in the same roll neck and jeans combination before I become utterly unenthused about it. Now this of course is partially my own fault. Whilst the winter wardrobe can become repetitive due to having to opt for those ‘go to’ layers, I also don’t think I’ve helped myself by mostly opting for a selection of muted tones and very safe pieces. Don’t get me wrong, I like my muted tones and easy re-stylers, those are my staples which I will of course pull out year after year but I am now feeling more than ready to inject some colour back into my wardrobe.

Not only am I looking to bring more colour back into my wardrobe but I also want to mix things up with my style a little bit too. I recently did a video all about this, where I planned my style for spring/summer and it actually got me excited about my outfits once again. I however am impatient. I want to wear my spring pieces and I want to wear them now. So that’s exactly what I am going to do.

I got this fabulous polka dot skirt from Finery in the sale recently and as soon as I saw it I fell in love with it. It adds a little bit more fun to my look whilst still being a very ‘me’ piece. I’ve always had a thing for polka dots and it’s a pattern that my wardrobe has seen plenty of throughout the years. I feel a print like this is so versatile and will easily see you right through from winter to spring.

I’ve missed wearing skirts and dresses and I love how a midi skirt like this is actually a great alternative to jeans when you’ve started to feel a bit ‘same-y’ and want to mix things up a bit. From the biker jacket to the boots, these are the usual pieces that I’d wear day to day with jeans, but by swapping out the jeans for a flowing skirt, it gives the outfit a completely different look.

But what about the cold? I hear you say. Well don’t worry, your girl has got you covered, quite literally, because I am all about the layering. You probably already spotted the leggings here in this outfit combo, although I think if you have some knee or thigh high boots, this could also work fabulously, as I’m just sort of faking that look here. And what if one layer of leggings isn’t enough to keep you toasty? Then add a pair of tights underneath those, heck, add a pair of jeans whilst you’re at it too. Who knows what else is underneath there, that’s the beauty of a skirt…and on that note, let’s end this here.

That’s a lot of outfit talk from me for one post but if you couldn’t tell I am very excited for spring/summer and all of the fabulous outfit combinations it will bring with it. Until then, plan ahead, have fun and remember, layering is your best friend! Have you started thinking about your spring/summer outfits yet? Are you impatient like me?

  • Learning To Go With The Flow

Learning To Go With The Flow

    Going With The Flow

The idea of going with the flow sounds like something easy breezy but the reality is, it can often be quite the opposite. Going with the flow has the connotation of allowing yourself to bob along with the current of the river, which sounds simple…but then what if that current is going in the complete opposite direction to which you had planned.

We’ve likely all had times when going with the flow has led us to something fun or exciting, be it heading out for an evening with friends or throwing ourselves into a new work role with no real plan of what’s in store. Sometimes however we can find ourselves feeling forced to go with a flow that we aren’t quite as optimistic about. I think this is when the idea of what it really means to go with the flow is put into place. It’s not necessarily letting the flow completely take control of you and whisk you on down that river (right direction or not) but rather learning to ride the current so that even if things are taking you in a different direction than you’d planned, you are still able to work with it and prevent yourself from getting swept under.

Metaphors aside, I think the point I’m trying to make here is that even the most detailed life plan is bound to change, as the flow and direction of our lives are ever evolving. It’s normal to be faced with challenges or feel that we aren’t moving in the right direction from time to time. What’s important is that we allow ourselves to adapt with it and understand that no flow is continuously going to be a smooth one but if we allow ourselves to learn and grow from it, then that is the true art of going with the flow.

  • The Need For Balance & A Social Time Out

The Need For Balance & A Social Time Out

Maybe There Is Such Thing As Too Much Fun

I well and truly feel like I’ve burnt the candle at both ends. You know that friend that will say yes to social plans 95% of the time, even the super last minute ones, well that’s me. The problem is, not being one to say no means I’m like this even when I have a thousand other things on my plate and eventually it often leads me to grinding to a complete and utter halt. I say this, but obviously work still needs to carry on, previously made social plans are still in the diary and meanwhile my mind is ready to switch off, I’m left feeling unmotivated and the most appealing option is to go into hibernation.

I think a big part of this comes down to not wanting to disappoint and trying to always be there for the people around me. When I say no to something or have to cancel plans I’m always left feeling so guilty, when in reality I know my friends and loved ones would understand, but I just can’t help feeling bad. There’s also the occasional fear of missing out and for the most part I just love having fun, so will rarely pass up the opportunity.

And that’s the thing, I do have a lot of fun. I can think of so many memories from this year alone that will set me off giggling just thinking about them. I’ve been able to spend some quality time and make great memories with some of my favourite people and I’ve had a lot of pretty cool adventures.

Whilst I sometimes do well with juggling it all, I need to remember that I occasionally need to stop in order to prevent me from eventually dropping everything. Saying no and easing up my social calendar is something I’ve never been great at and I absolutely love making plans, but it’s vital I get better at it in order to allow myself to have some rest and recuperation.

They talk about the work/life balance but I feel like I need ‘time out’ thrown in there too. I don’t mean stopping everything altogether, I just mean giving myself periods where I take a step back from social engagements and focus on work and me time, instead of trying to fit everything in all at once and eventually burning out altogether. This is just a reminder to myself that it’s okay to say no, it’s okay to not be available for everything and it’s okay to have those days that you might not have other plans but that you keep free anyway, even just to have a day for yourself.

Oh hello there. I’m kicking off a new week with a new outfit post, which actually consist of nothing ‘new’ as such, but a bunch of pieces I’m loving all the same.

I say nothing new but I actually think I’m yet to introduce my newest Pinko edition here on the blog, which is this black and silver Love Bag with gold hard wear. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll already have seen that I’ve been using this bag a lot! I feel it’s a great alternative to my ‘Love Me Tender’ canvas Pinko Love Bag, which is great for more neutral toned outfits, where is this one is perfect for when I want to go for my more monochromatic looks, like with today’s outfit.

Talking about things I’ve been loving, the weather has been making me so happy recently, (I type this as it’s currently raining outside but the forecast says the sun will be back again later in the week thankfully). It’s been so nice not having to worry about jackets or layering for once and I’ve been making the most of every opportunity to go out without a jacket when the weather has been glorious.

I actually shot this outfit a few weekends ago when Damien and I were on our way to Castlefield to meet up with a friend for afternoon drinks and I’m glad to say we’ve had a good run of sunny Saturdays since, which has meant I’ve been able to wear lots of my favourite summer pieces.

I often like to combine an element of classy and casual into my looks when possible and I feel with this outfit I was able to do just that. I practically live in my Converse, which I think worked quite well with this look, but equally if you wanted to glam this outfit up for an evening you’d just need to pop on some heels and you’d be good to go.

Anyway, that’s enough outfit ramble. It mostly speaks for itself but I just fancied a natter and I don’t have much else interesting to chat to you about in today’s post but I’ll be back later in the week with a new post and another little catch up. Ciao for now…

    Have a wonderful week!

  • Denim Free

    Denim Free

I talked recently here on my blog about wanting to mix things up a little bit with my style. It’s not that I want to change my style completely but I’ve just been feeling the need for a slight wardrobe refresh as of late. Throughout Autumn and Winter I felt like I more or less lived in jeans and so now the sun has started to show its face here in the UK, I’ve been keen to ditch the denim…for a little while at least.

I joked about putting myself on a denim ban recently and although that hasn’t been completely feasible (as let’s face it, there are some days when only denim will do), I have been trying my best to opt for jean free outfits when possible and I have added a few new (non denim) bottoms into my wardrobe, in order to help mix things up.

One of my recent (non jean) additions was this Topshop midi skirt that I spotted whilst in store recently and instantly fell in love with! I’d been on the hunt for a white/off white midi skirt and after buying and returning one from Asos that wasn’t quite right, I was glad to find an even better one the second time round whilst in Topshop. I think it’s the contrasting black buttons up the sides of the skirt that really sold this one to me, as I think they really help to elevate an otherwise simple piece.

The navy polka dot cami top is also a new addition, as I’ve been wanting to add a few more summery tops into my wardrobe. As I also mentioned in a previous post how I got a little bit sick of wearing roll necks over the Autumn/Winter period and so now I intend to opt for strappy tops with the excuse to get my arms out at any opportunity, because as you will well know if you’re from the UK, when the sun is out here you’ve got to make the most of it!

So that’s it, just a short but sweet one from me today. I seem to be back on my creativity train (whatever one of those is) so I will be back later in the week with another new post. Also I’ve been posting lots more outfit photos over on my Instagram lately, generally day to day and in real time, so if you are interested in outfits (and possibly less of my rambling) then be sure to come find me there: @samiorenelda. And one final plug with my Youtube channel, which I’ve been keeping updated with lots of style related videos lately, including a look through my entire wardrobe, so if you fancy a nosey at that you can check it out here. 😀

Have a fabulous rest of the week!

  • 50’s Style in The Black Midi Skirt

50’s Style in The Black Midi Skirt

Last Thursday was the second day into October and yet it still felt like summer. I do not know what is going on with the weather here in England but it makes the task of dressing even more of a challenge when you don’t know if you’re stepping out to a day of sunshine one day or rain the next. Thursdsday was certainly a warm day and I luckily dressed appropriately for the weather for once.

I picked out some recently purchased items from my wardrobe and went for this black midi skirt I bought last week on Asos and this short sleeved shirt I got not too long ago from H&M. I decided on comfortable footwear and went for these ballet flats I picked up in Asda. That’s right, Asda, there’s nothing like the convenience of doing a grocery shop and picking up a pair of shoes in the process… The bag is one I bought from Zara whilst I was in Barcelona over the summer and I decided red would add a pop of colour to this otherwise monochrome outfit. I went for some faux pearls and a red lip to finish of this outfit, giving it an almost 1950’s style look.

In the evening I met up with my friend Dale and we headed to Hard Rock Cafe to stuff our faces. To start we shared some fried chicken strips and for our mains we both went for the Tango Burger, finishing with a tasty hot fudge brownie with ice cream and whiped cream. As if that wasn’t all filling enough, I managed to get through an impressive eight Pepsi colas. They were refillable so it would have been rude not to. Needless to say, I left feeling more than satisfied.
