    H&M, Clarks & Orla Kiely

Let’s start from the bottom and work our way up shall we…

Clarks Orla Beryl In Navy Leather

So with Saturday’s outfit I finally got round to wearing my Clarks x Orla Kiely navy leather platform heels. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen me post a picture of these. Since this year’s Clarks x Orla Kiely collaboration dropped, I’ve been swooning over these retro looking babies and if I’m quite honest when I was given the chance to pick a pair out, I was torn between the navy leather and the brown (both equally as stunning). In the end I opted for the Navy Leather as I didn’t own any heels in that colour and I’ve already mentioned in previous posts about my current love for shades of blue at the moment. So the decision was made…

So on Saturday I spent the day strutting around town is these towering diva heels and I have to say they were rather comfortable (by heels standards), they didn’t rub and as they have quite a large platform they don’t feel quite as tall (heel height – 12cm) when you’re wearing them and so they don’t strain your feet so much when walking.

For the rest of my outfit I wore this cute yellow jersey dress, covered with a quirky dark blue speckled print. I picked this up recently from H&M. I always love going to there for cute little summer dresses that you can just throw on. This one was only £7.99.

The jacket was another recent H&M purchase and I’ve not stopped wearing it since I bought it last Monday. Now the weather is hotting up here in England, I’m able to ditch the heavy jackets and it’s so perfect having a lightweight jacket like this that I can throw on. The style is cropped, so it means that I goes perfectly with all my high waisted skirts and pretty spring/summer dresses.

Live Simple, Dream Big, Give Love, Laugh More

This is my first blog post in just over a week, I think this has been the longest amount of time I’ve not blogged for in a while. It’s funny that I now see a week as a long time to not have blogged, seeing as when I first began blogging my posting was somewhat sporadic but what can I say, since the start of this year, I now have the blogging bug. Anyway, sometimes life gets in the way or even the words just don’t quite flow and I go into a bit of a ‘bloggers block’, especially when I feel like in have lots of other things on my mind. Last week I spent a couple of days in London, which might also have something to do with it and although I’m down there again this week, this time I plan to be more organised with my blogging schedule…

Anyway, onto the focal words of this post: Live Simple, Dream Big, Give Love, Laugh More – Four simple hashtags on my t-shirt. I spotted this top in H&M and although it’s not the usual style of Tee that I go for, I really liked the fitted, slightly cropped style and decided to purchase it. Also I think the hashtags are some pretty good points to live by.

    #Live Simple
This is always something I have often struggled with, what can I say, I’m a consumer, I want more, I buy more. I enjoy acquiring ‘stuff’ and even when I go away for just a week I struggle to fit all my ‘essentials’ into one decent sized case. However to ‘live simple’ is something I have been trying to do more in recent times. Don’t get me wrong, you won’t see me giving up my home and living out of a backpack anytime soon but I’ve learnt that certain extravagances don’t always bring you happiness and sometimes (just sometimes), the simple things are the best.

    #Dream Big
I’m the biggest dreamer, some may even say, ‘too much of a dreamer’. I often need to remind myself to put my plans into action instead of just dreaming about them but over the years I’ve got better at that and I’d say to anyone else, why limit yourself. If you have dreams, chase them.

    #Give Love
Never were there wiser words. Without sounding all hippie dippy, if we all just gave a bit more love (not just to those we know), the world would be a much better place. Enough said.

    #Laugh More
Laughing is infections, it makes you smile, it makes other people smile and most importantly, it makes people happy (unless your laugh is the start of a manic breakdown instead of actual happiness of course), so when you can, do it more. Don’t take life too seriously, enjoy the moment and surround yourself with those who bring you joy.

On Friday I met up with my friend Dale and we headed for lunch before I helped him spend some money clothes shopping (my speciality). For lunch we had planned on burgers but after a last minute change of plan we opted for Zizzi. I went for the Pulled Pork Rustica pizza while Dale opted for a calzone. As delicious as our dishes sounded and looked, we were both pretty disappointed with our meals. There was nothing wrong with them as such, we just found that they were both pretty bland for our pallets. I’d only been to Zizi once prior to this occasion and had gone for the calzone containing meatballs, which I think I enjoyed. I guess it was just a case of wrong choice for both of us on this occasion.

To make up for our failed lunch however, we later headed to the Northern Quarter for some tea and cake and both opted for a slice of carrot cake each and traditional English tea. I can’t remember the name of the cafe we went in but it’s on Oldham Street right next to Afflecks Palace and I walk past it all the time but this is the first time I popped in. Anyway, it cost only £3.50 for a tea and a slice of cake, which is pretty good and the carrot cake was really tasty too.

    Hotel Bustle Ootd

Finally, a glimpse of sunnier days. Although I think I spoke too soon, as today it is actually raining but this weekend however, we finally saw some blue skies in Manchester. Although it may have still been rather nippy, I still saw the brighter looking weather as an excuse to wear my new sandals which I got to pick out from Clarks recently. I went for the Hotel Bustle sandals in navy leather. I was instantly drawn to them, I love the colour and when they arrived I loved them even more.

On Saturday it was of course Valentine’s Day and I spent it with my boyfriend doing what we do best… Eating! We took an impromptu journey to the Northern Quater and found ourselves in Almost Famous (the best burger joint), chowing down on some delicious burgers. I went for something a little different this time and opted for the burger consisting of two burger patties, a sausage pattie, poached egg, potato waffle and maple syrup. It was actually amazing! Then for sides we went for our usual portions of bacon bacon fries and suicide wings. How romantic are we. In the evening we enjoyed champagne and cocktails and I received a Hockney coffee table book which I was thrilled with (David Hockney is my favourite artist in case you didn’t know). It was rather fitting as last Valentine’s Day we took a trip to the Tate in Liverpool to see Hockney’s exhibition there. So keeping with the theme, maybe next year I’ll receive a genuine Hockney painting… Yeah right.

  • Flashbacks of The Last Summer…

    Flashbacks of The Last Summer…

I woke up yesterday morning and it was snowing… SNOWING! Now I’m not complaining, no wait a minute, I am. Snow is fabulous, it’s delightful, it’s absolutely fantastically magical when it comes along before Christmas, or Christmas Day, even better! However, two and a half weeks after, when the tree is down and Santa has gone home, I’m over it. I’m sick of being cold and I certainly don’t want to see snow. Now I shouldn’t be moaning as I really do enjoy the different seasons and I’m sure if I lived with one consistent weather type I’d miss it but I blame the shops and Christmas cards for my lack of January weather appreciation. I blame Christmas cards because the pictures always portray snow laden valleys and pretty icicles, which now immediately makes me associate cold weather and frost with Christmas time and the shops are worse because they decide to get rid of all the winter stock at the coldest time of the year and start stocking in spring/summer clothes and bikinis. Now I don’t know about you but that really messes my head up and it makes my need for spring/summer days even more immidiate.

With all this in my mind, I was clearing through some of the stuff on my hard drive the other day when I stumbled across some unused outfit shots from last August. It reminded me how nice it is to be able to wear so few layers. So now I thought I’d finally share this forgotten outfit post on my blog, as a reminder that it was warm once and it will eventually be beautiful spring/summer once again. And to all of you who live in countries where it is warm right now, I’m not jealous one bit. Of course I’m not.

  • Wrapped Up for Winter

    Wrapped Up for Winter

So Christmas is finally over but winter certainly isn’t. I’m feeling the necessity of layers even more as this cold weather here in England continues to sweep in and I’m wanting to do nothing more than hibernate in bed. However, as it is mandatory to venture outside I make sure I’m layered up when I do so and I’m more than happy that I have this coat to keep me warm. I got this coat from H&M at the start of December and it’s truly been my saviour on those frosty days. It’s actually now in the sale as all the shops are prepping for spring/summer, so if you go quick you may be able to nab a bargain. Although the shops may be preparing for warmer days, I on the other hand am not quite ready to get into shorts and a crop top, so for now it’s still warm clothes and layers for me!

Black Faux Fur and Snake Print Trousers

As talked about in my previous blog post, last weekend I was in London. Afterwards I was home for two days and then today I’m off to London again, this time however I’m back to work mode.

Last Saturday I spent the day with my friends shopping on Oxford Street. Although I didn’t actually do much shopping myself, I had such a fun day spending time with my ex Barcelona flat mates and also having long over due catch ups.

Before we lost the last bit of light (it begins to go dark in England at around 3:30pm during winter), we weaved down a few side streets and I managed to get a few outfit snaps of what I was wearing that day.

Last Thursday I had a long overdue Mother, Daughter day and so The Mother and I decided to spend it doing what we do best, shopping. Before hitting the shops however, we went to The Manchester Art Gallery to check out the latest exhibition there, The Sensory War 1914-2014. It’s certainly one that I would recommend to any art lovers in town.

Before we left The Manchester Art Gallery we spotted some women’s dresses on display on the ground floor which were designed and made in the 1950s. Being a big lover of the fashion styles of that decade I had to take a few snaps and we were particularly amazed to see how tiny the models waists were.

After we’d spent the morning wondering round the gallery, we headed for a spot of coffee and cake to give us a much needed energy boost before our long awaited shopping spree. So it was off to Patisserie Valerie we went and I opted for a mixed fruit tart and coffee mocha, whilst The Mother went for a slice of lemon cheesecake washed down with a cappuccino.

  • The Pink Holographic Shoulder Bag

    The Pink Holographic Shoulder Bag

Since I was little I’ve been what you might call a ‘girly girl’ and still now into my adulthood there are many factors including that my favourite colour is pink, I’m instantly attracted to shiny, sparkly accessories and the fact that I’m still secretly slightly envious of Barbie’s wardrobe, that prove my fashion sense hasn’t grown up quite as much as I’d like to think.

Nowadays however, instead of dressing head to toe as a sparkling, shimmery, walking rainbow, I unleash my inner childhood girly girl by opting for key pieces to add a pop of fun to my outfits. So when picking out a bag from LYDC London, of course I opted for the fabulous Argill Holographic Shoulder bag in pink!

I’m like a magpie when it comes to shiny things and so I was instantly attracted to this particular LYDC bag, however I must say I was spoilt for choice whilst browsing through their website, so if you’re on the look out for a new bag, I’d recommend it as the place to go!
