    1940’s Style

Yesterday the boyfriend and I had another day off together and so we spent it doing what we do best, shopping, eating and drinking. Well maybe the shopping part is what I do best but the eating and drinking is definitely a joint effort as we are both big foodies and also partial to the odd cocktail… Or five.

Shopping turned out to be more successful for my boyfriend than it did for me, however I did manage to purchase a big cosy scarf and my second pair of winter boots, which I love!

    1940's style outfit

I wore this vintage dress that I’ve had for about a year but never actually worn until yesterday. I’d bought the dress off eBay and it is slightly on the large size, (probably the reason I’d never previously got round to wearing it). Thanks to the large waist belt (which also came with the dress) I was able to really nip it in at the wait and also roll up the sleeves to give the dress a more fitted look. I decided to team the dress with a faux fur shrug I’ve had for a while from Asos and together it gave it gave the outfit a kind of 1940s look, although the dress is most likely from the 80s.

    Botanist Cocktails

The afternoon soon crept in and so we sampled a couple of yummy cocktails at the Botanist before heading to Evuna in The Northern Quater, for a late lunch of tapas.

After lunch we went to Hard Rock Cafe for more tasty cocktails, starting with milkshake cocktails, me opting for the one with bacon bits on top, which was surprisingly delicious. And after drinking our way into the evening it was then time for dinner, so we decided to go to one of our favourite burger joints, Almost Famous. I went for the Smokey and The Bandit burger and we shared morning after fries and suicide wings. As usual, it did not disappoint.

  • Faux Fur Coat Weather

    Faux Fur Coat Weather

Today I purchased my first pair of boots for the winter and it was also the first time I was able to wear my new faux fur coat. Yes, it looks like Autumn is finally here.

My boyfriend and I had the full day together and after a long relaxing lunch we headed to the shops and joined the rush of people all hunting for winter clothes. For a Monday I was surprised how busy the shops were but I guess everyone had the same idea and winter wardrobe shopping was on most people’s agenda.

Vero Moda Grey Faux Fur Coat

I bought this grey Vero Moda faux fur coat a few weeks ago off Asos. Always one for a bargain I managed to nab this one in the sale before my size sold out. I like to be prepared, so I was glad I had this snug coat to hand today when the cold weather set in. I’m still on the look out for another winter coat though, as although I love faux fur, it’s not always the most practical.

Urban Outfitters Black patent Mock Croc Bag

Speaking of bargains, I got this mock croc patent bag last week in the sale from Urban Outfitters. I love it and it’s the perfect size for on the go when I just need to carry the essentials.

    Tesco Patent Burgundy Loafers

These patent loafers are also a new purchase from F&F. That’s the second supermarket brand item I’ve bought in a month, this time from Tesco. They are really comfy, I love the colour and at only £15 they were a complete bargain too.

Lunch was delicious. We went to Rosylee Tea Rooms and enjoyed a tasty three course lunch. I opted for the baked crab to start, the wild rabbit for main (with a side of chips of course) and the dark chocolate tart for dessert. Each course was gorgeous but I have to say that the dessert was an especially scrumptious treat, each mouthful was heaven! It certainly kept us going for the rest of the day, although I could have easily gone for a nap after it.

50’s Style in The Black Midi Skirt

Last Thursday was the second day into October and yet it still felt like summer. I do not know what is going on with the weather here in England but it makes the task of dressing even more of a challenge when you don’t know if you’re stepping out to a day of sunshine one day or rain the next. Thursdsday was certainly a warm day and I luckily dressed appropriately for the weather for once.

I picked out some recently purchased items from my wardrobe and went for this black midi skirt I bought last week on Asos and this short sleeved shirt I got not too long ago from H&M. I decided on comfortable footwear and went for these ballet flats I picked up in Asda. That’s right, Asda, there’s nothing like the convenience of doing a grocery shop and picking up a pair of shoes in the process… The bag is one I bought from Zara whilst I was in Barcelona over the summer and I decided red would add a pop of colour to this otherwise monochrome outfit. I went for some faux pearls and a red lip to finish of this outfit, giving it an almost 1950’s style look.

In the evening I met up with my friend Dale and we headed to Hard Rock Cafe to stuff our faces. To start we shared some fried chicken strips and for our mains we both went for the Tango Burger, finishing with a tasty hot fudge brownie with ice cream and whiped cream. As if that wasn’t all filling enough, I managed to get through an impressive eight Pepsi colas. They were refillable so it would have been rude not to. Needless to say, I left feeling more than satisfied.

  • Something Old, Something Blue

    Something Old, Something Blue

Again we’ve been experiencing this unexpected sunny weather here in England and so my wardrobe is back to front. Just as I was about to start shopping for faux furs and winter boots, the sun has decided to stay a little longer and so I’m pulling out crop tops and light fabrics to keep up with the weather.

I feel really unprepared for this sunny September and as I feel I’ve exhausted my summer wardrobe already, I’ve been forced to rummage a little deeper through my wardrobe and by doing so have found garments I forgot I even owned.

    Street Style

I absolutely love these culottes but although I’ve had them a while, I’ve very rarely worn them due to the colour, as I often finding that they clash with most of my other clothes. Yesterday however, it was finally time to pull them out of the closet.

I decided to team the culottes with a white crop top that I bought earlier this year, from Forever 21. I thought that the culottes and the crop top looked so cute together but this is where I had the dilemma of finding a jacket that went with the whole look. As I knew it would get a little chilly in the evening I was adamant I needed a jacket. Then voila, I found this little leopard print number that I’ve had since forever. With my brown bag and flats, I thought the jacket teamed the whole look together rather well. Not bad for an outfit that was literally thrown on.

    Leopard Print Jacket

It was date night, so my boyfriend and I headed out for pizza and wine (my favourite), before going to the cinema to watch The Guest. If you were wondering, I thought that the film was unusual but I rather liked it. I don’t think that it will be everyone’s cup of tea but then I always seem to like strange films. I was most fascinated watching Dan Stevens playing a convincing psychotic American guy, long gone is Mr Crawly!

    What I Wore:
    Culottes: Rare London (Last year?)
    Crop Top: Forever 21
    Cropped jacket: Ebay (old)
    Ballet Flats: Topshop
    Bag: Zara

  • You Don’t Fool Me – Biker Jacket and Tee

You Don’t Fool Me – Biker Jacket and Tee

On Saturday I took a trip to The Trafford Center. I’d gone with my boyfriend just to have a browse and grab some lunch but obviously, me being me, a ‘browse’ soon turned into a mini shopping spree as I ended up purchasing several new items. All the autumn winter collections are in the shops now, so I couldn’t help but getting sucked in by all the shiny new items and wanting to fill my wardrobe with autumn ready looks.

Samio in Asos Biker Jacket, Gap Jeans with Zara Bag

I’d been looking for a new handbag for a while and as I’ve mentioned previously, Zara is usually the place I go when I want a good shopper/tote style bag. Zara’s handbags are usually good quality and value and so they are perfect for me as I like to swap and change my bag quite often. I spotted this large brown handbag in Zara and thought it would be the perfect size (for those days when I need to carry round my life in a bag), I also really liked the colour and for £29.99 I couldn’t complain.

    Zara Brown Leather Look Bag

River Island TAN CHUNKY CLEATED SOLE T BAR SHOES

Keeping with the colour scheme, whilst in The Trafford Centre, I also purchased these chunky T-bar shoes which I found in River Island. They caught my eye because of the colour but then the deal was sealed when I saw the price as they were £20 down from £35. As well as the fact that the shoes were a similar tone to my newly purchased bag, I’d also wanted something similar for a while, in a colour that wan’t black. So the shoes were a perfect find.

    H&M T-shit - You Don't Fool Me

The T-shirt I purchased the other week from H&M and the jacket I bought off Asos. I’ve been wanting to wear this jacket for a while now and although I finally got round to wearing it today, I still don’t think I was weather ready. This biker jacket is actually super thick, so it’s going to be great for some of those chilly autumn days. However as for today (once again), I think I misjudged the English weather slightly as the sun decided to show it’s face and it was actually rather warm.

    What I Wore:

    Eyespy Dungarees

I’ve always been a big fan of monochrome and at the moment I’ve been wearing a lot of monochrome looks, teamed with my favorite colour, pink. I think it looks so classic yet girly. Because I adore monochrome looks I also love dog tooth prints and so when the lovely Faye Elizabeth’s Boutique offered to send me one of their items, I was automatically drawn to these cute Jovonna dungarees. I was thrilled when my dungarees arrived to find that they fit perfectly and I was able to adjust the dungaree straps so that they fit to my height (I have a lanky body).

It was a rather mild day, so I decided to wear a plain black vest underneath my dungarees. I teamed it with what I like to call my ‘Mrs Kennedy’ jacket, named so because I think it looks like something that Jackie Kennedy would have worn and I just love how 60’s it looks.

  • Boyfriend Jeans, Heels & A Tee

Boyfriend Jeans, Heels & A Tee

I really have been embracing my casual side as of late. Comfy denims and relaxed tees, are some of the pieces that I have been loving at the moment. Of course I am still very fond of my heels and so I do enjoy combining the casual with the dressy. I like how a sophisticated heel with a pair of slouchy jeans can add femininity to an otherwise tomboyish look. I also seem to have a new found ‘thing’ for logo/slogan tops, I’m maybe slightly late on the bandwagon with that one but I like how a slogan Tee can add a statement to your outfit without the need for over styling.

    Over Dress

Okay, so let’s talk about the over sized jersey. This is one of the pieces I picked up whilst in York (see York post here). I was on a day trip doing all the touristy stuff at the time, so shopping wasn’t really on the agenda but when I spotted this cool jersey number in the shop window, I knew it needed to be purchased.

  • Keeping It Casual

    Keeping It Casual

My style is often described as quite ‘dressy’, or at least not as casual anyway but some days I want nothing more than to throw on a pair of jeans and a jumper. So I’ve slowly been introducing more casual attire into my wardrobe.

I’m loving some of the plimsolls the stores have in right now. Practical footwear never used to be an option for me but as more and more flats are slowly creeping their way into my wardrobe, I’m starting to appreciate the comfort and convenience of practical footwear. These slip ons are just that and as well as having the practicality factor they are stylish too and I love the print. I’ve not even had these shoes long and you can already see how convenient they have become, due to the scuff marks from me wearing them so much.

River Island Brown Faux Leather Backpack and H&M snakeskin print plimsolls

In a previous post, I already talked about my new found love for jeans that started around this time last year. I soon found myself with shelves full of jeans, however the majority of them I do not wear. I have found finding a pair of jeans that are just right and easy to throw on with anything is hard. I started shopping in Gap earlier this year and I’ve really started to become a fan of some of their simple everyday garments. Okay so I know it’s not the most fashionable shop ever but I like it for its good quality staple pieces that can be easily styled.

I’m automatically drawn to jeans with rips. I love how they can been worn casual or also add an edge to a more dressy look with heels. These are the first jeans I bought from Gap and I’ve worn them loads. The style name of these jeans is ‘Always Skinny’ and although I’ll admit they have gone a little baggy since I first bought them (not that you can tell on the photos), I do not feel it has majorly effected the look.

Samio wearing white Gap jumper and denim jeans with brown faux leather River Island backpack

I’d originally bought the backpack as a gym bag/travel bag (as it’s quite large) but recently I’ve found myself using it more and more as it fits in everything. I spotted it in River Island last time I was in London and had to buy it. I think it looks way more expensive than it is and at £35 I thought it was a steal.

Samio Wearing River Island Brown Textured Leather Look Rucksack

As for the jumper (also from Gap), what can I say, it’s simple, comfortable and easy to throw on which I think is the perfect completion to a super causal look.

    Secret Garden

One of my favourite parts of Barcelona has to be Montjuïc. Beautiful gardens, amazing views and the tranquility of being hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona’s busy centre… Okay so it’s a mean feat to climb this mountain like hill but once at the top, you’re generously rewarded with the most fabulous settings. This of course makes Montjuïc the perfect place to take pictures and for me to do a long over due blog update.

This was my third time up Montjuïc, (the first being in January last year) and although I knew the park was big I had no idea of the full scale of it until trekking up and around it in the blazing heat. My friend and I were some what inappropriately dressed for such an adventure (for which we received a few odd looks) but as a result I was more than satisfied with the shots from this post, as the settings were perfect!
