    Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Serum

Recently I had the chance to try out Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Serum. The reason I actually ended up trying this product is because I’d stayed over at my friend’s place the night before and hadn’t brought any hair products with me to style my hair the next day. My friend has straight hair so I thought I was going to have a bit of a dilemma when it came to maintaing my curls but after I used the Organix Serum, I was really pleased with the results.

Renewing Organix Moroccan Argan Penetrating Oil

I did a regular wash using shampoo and conditioner before applying this product. I generally leave a small amount of conditioner in my hair after washing (so I never fully rinse out the product). After having my hair wrapped in a towel for some time, I took it off my hair and applied the Organix Serum. Whilst my hair was still damp. I used a hair dryer to dry my hair and once my hair was fully dried I was very happy with the outcome. I didn’t use a huge amount of product and yet it still left my hair looking super glossy yet soft to the touch. It leaves the hair feeling non-sticky which is great and also makes it ideal for use on straight hair too.

  • The Floral Playsuit

    The Floral Playsuit

As of late I’ve been super busy with work so yesterday it was nice to have an afternoon off and enjoy a long overdue lunch date with the Mother. I was shooting in the morning but with an early finish, it gave me plenty of time to meet up with the Mother and enjoy a lovely afternoon in the sun. We went to Avalanche Restaurant for lunch and wine and then spent the rest of the day sat outside bars drinking summery ciders and fruity cocktails, bliss.

I’d been in London again on the weekend and whilst I was down I did some shopping, picking up lots of summery outfits, which I can’t wait to wear now the sun is deciding to show it’s face! I also purchased this cute floral play suit from Forever 21. They have so many pretty summer pieces in at the moment. I love this playsuit as it’s loose fitted which makes it cool to wear on hot days and it’s floral print is ultra girlie. I do hope these sunny days continue but with the unpredictable British weather, I guess it’s best to just make the most of it whilst it’s here.

  • Mega Instant Braid Out

    Mega Instant Braid Out

Recently I’ve been getting a lot of questions on how I do my braid outs. I previously did a similar post last year: Braid Out Vs Wash & Go but since so many people have been asking and also as I sometimes use different products, I thought I’d do an updated post with lots more images to show it step by step.

For this particular braid out I used Aussie Mega Instant Conditioner. I usually use Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner but whilst shopping I picked up the Mega Instant by mistake and so I’ve been using this one. There isn’t a huge difference, both work rather well on my hair. I just tend to find Miracle Moist is more wet and adds more moisture to my hair, where as Mega Instant, I find is thicker and slightly heavier on the hair so I tend to use it more sparingly.

    Aussie Mega Instandt conditioner

Here is a before picture of my hair. Here my hair had been washed the previous day and then left product free. As you can see there is quite a lot of frizz and the curls are slightly fuzzy and less defined.
    Natural Curly Afro Hair

I first divide my hair into 5 rough sections. I only made the center part neat this particular time, as it is where I wanted my hair to part once I’d done the braid out. If you decide you want a side part, then make sure there is a neat divide on whichever side you would like to wear your part once you’ve taken out your plaits. I then apply a dollop of the Mega Instant Conditioner to my first section (usually working on a front section first) and began to comb through, slowly working through from the ends to the root of my hair.
    Macadamia Brush

I use enough product so that the hair is damp and easy to brush through. Once the product is fully brushed through the first section of hair, you can see how my curls have become defined and tamed by the product.
    Curly Hair Aussie Conditioner

I then tightly plait the first section of hair. I start the plait loser at the top of my head, so not to put too much strain on my hair at the root. I then begin to plait tighter about half an inch into the plait until the end.

Tip: It’s important to make sure the hair is not too wet when you plait it, as then it often makes it harder to dry once braided up and when the hair stays wet the style doesn’t set. If you need to, wait a couple of minutes for the hair to dry a little before braiding up. If the hair is just slightly damp, then it should be fine.
    Plait 1

I repeat this process of applying the product and then plaiting the combed through sections until I have five plaits on my head. As you can see my sections have been roughly parted, as you won’t see these back sections once the braids have been taken out. I have only paid attention to making the center part straight as you can also see below.
    Plaits

If you’re sleeping on your braids, then it is advised to wear a silky head scarf to prevent fiction which can cause frizz. As my parts and braids aren’t particularly neat, I also like to wear a head scarf if I am going out with my protective hair style before doing a braid out.
Samio Head Scarf Protective hair style

When I’m ready to take my braids out (usually the morning after) I first check that the plaits feel fully dry. If I take the hair out damp, the style usually just falls flat. So it’s rather important that the hair is fully dry before taking out the plaits. I separate each plait carefully, as not to mess up the newly formed waves/curls.
    Braid out blog

Once all my braids are out, I then use my fingers as a comb to carefully separate through the roots of my hair. I focus mainly on the root and not as much on the ends so that it doesn’t break up the curls and become too frizzy.
    Samio Braid Out Blog

If I want extra volume I will then go through my hair (again carefully) with an Afro comb… I also then like to give my hair a good shake.

…And once the braid out is complete, I’m usually left with something like this.

  • 7 Reasons To Not Rush A Relationship

7 Reasons To Not Rush A Relationship

Earlier I read an article titled ‘99 Things You Learn As A Single In Your 20s‘. The first paragraph reads “Despite what many people think, your twenties are honestly the perfect time to be single. These are the years you are growing into your own person, adjusting to the new world of adulthood and being exposed to things you never have been exposed to before.” Followed by “(you are) exploring new cities, interacting with all different types of people — all while gaining new experiences”

I read this and thought, wait a second, I’m in my 20s, I’m in a long term relationship and I do all those things, with and without my boyfriend and completely monogamously. Many of the points in this article I do actually agree with and if you are in your 20s and single then I also agree, it’s probably the best time to be so. However if you do fall in love and find someone who feels completely and perfectly right for you, as I have, then I don’t believe anyone would prefer being single over that. Although with that sentence I must quote point 41 in the article ‘Not every relationship you get involved in is going to be “the relationship”’. I couldn’t agree with this point more and it is exactly why it helps not to rush your relationship and the reason it is good to still allow yourself the fun and independence whilst you are young.

I love you... I love you not...

  • Monochrome Monday

    Monochrome Monday

A couple of weeks ago I was sent a package from Premium fashion boutique, Black White Denim. They sent me one of their round neck long sleeved white tees. It’s a great staple piece for your wardrobe and I was happy to have received it as it was something that my wardrobe had been missing. It can often be hard to find good quality basic pieces like this. In the past when buying pieces like this, I’ve often shied away from white when the fabric has been too thin it ends up being near transparent. This Black White Denim tee however is very good quality, plus it’s super soft. It may be a little pricier than your average basic clothing purchase but like their slogan goes ‘Buy now, keep forever’ and this is definitely a good quality piece that will last.

Another new addition to my wardrobe has been this faux leather black quilted backpack I bought from River Island last week. It feels like forever since I last shopped in River Island but at the moment they seem to have so many cute pieces in store, I may find myself popping in a lot more!

River Island Quilted Backpack Samio Style

I’d been looking for a new backpack for a while. Since getting back to the gym I got my first backpack to make it easier to carry my gym kit around. Since then I’ve been using my girly floral print Cath Kidston backpack, which is great but as I’ve been going to the gym more often, I decided it was time to get a leather look backpack that I could dress up a little more. When I spotted this black quilted one from River Island, it was perfect and so I had to have it.

Yesterday’s look ended up very monochrome. I teamed my Black White Denim L/S tee with a polka dot mini skirt from H&M (similar here), some black tights (because it was sunny but not boiling), my trusty Underground wedges and a gold chain anchor necklace also from H&M (similar here). My River Island quilted backpack finished off the look and I was ready to meet my friend who also had a day off. We went for pizza and wine and then headed to Richmond Tea Rooms for more wine and a large slice of carrot cake each. I managed to survive the day without spilling one pizza slop or wine drop on my white tee, hurrah!

  • Braid Out – Retro Up Do

Braid Out – Retro Up Do

So you’re waiting for the fro to grow and you’re fed up with the same style, or maybe you’re happy with the length but just fancy trying out a new do… Well here is an easy to follow step by step tutorial of a simple yet fancy looking, braid out style. This style can be done on long or short hair and is perfect for those of you who like the vintage look. Continue below to follow my 12 simple steps to achieve this style

    What you will need:
Leave in conditioner (or braid out product of your choice)
    Curvy grips/bobby pins
    Fabric or headscarf

    Step 1:

The night before, separate the hair into about four sections, add product to each section (I used Aussie Conditioner) and then plait… Basically you’ll be doing a braid out, if you need instructions on how best to do a braid out, read this previous, how to post here. Please note: Make sure one of your parts is to the side of your head and not in the center. This will just help the hair to fall to one side better when you take out the plaits, so then the style will be easier to achieve.

    Samio Hair Tutorial 1

    Step 2:

The next day, following on with the braid out process, undo the plaits carefully so not to mess up the newly formed wave in the hair.
    Samio Hair Tutorial 2

    Step 3:

Continue to undo all the plaits until you’re left with a head of waves. Separate parts of the hair slightly if you feel you need to. Do this gently using your fingers so not to create too much frizz.
    Samio Hair Tutorial 3

    Step 4:

Grab the majority of the hair, leaving about a quarter section to hang lose at the front…
    Samio Hair Tutorial 4

    Step 5:

Pin the grabbed hair at the back of the head. Do this using bobby pins/curvy grips (as many as needed) to secure in place.
    Samio Hair Tutorial 5

    Step 6:

Once the back part of the hair is pinned up and secured, you should be left with something that looks like this.
    Samio Hair Tutorial 6

    Step 7:

Now grab the front section of hair and take it to the side and again pin in place. One hair grip should be enough to hold this section but use more if needed.
    Samio Hair Tutorial 7

    Step 8:

Check that the front piece of hair is secure and that all grips are hidden.
    Samio Hair Tutorial 8

    Step 9:

Now that your style is in place, it’s time for the finishing touch… Grab a headscarf of your choice. Here I have chosen to use a long strip of organza fabric. You can buy this fabric at most haberdasheries or even online for a reasonable price. Don’t worry if you don’t have any organza fabric, a head scarf or any remnant of your choice of fabric will do fine. Just make sure that the fabric/headcarf you use is long enough to wrap around your head and tie into a large bow.
    Samio Hair Tutorial 9

    Step 10:

Wrap the fabric around the back of the head. Bring the fabric/headscarf together at the top of your head, just behind the front piece of pinned hair, then cross over and tie.
    Samio Hair Tutorial 10

    Step 11:

Finish tying the bow (the same as you would with a shoe lace) at the top of your head and then adjust the bow so that you are happy with it. If needed, secure the fabric/headscarf with more pins.
    Samio Hair Tutorial 11

    Step 12:

For the end result you should be left with something similar to this. Now go out, rock your new style and feel fabulous!

  • Botanics Instant Moisture Mist

    Botanics Instant Moisture Mist

The other day I popped into boots for a few gym bag essentials. Number one on my list was body moisturizer. Although I do have a few favorite skin moisturizers I tend to use, I often like trying new ones whilst totting up those ever useful Boots points! I love the Boots Botanic range and already use a number of their products, so I was intrigued when I spotted this Botanics Instant Moisturiser Mist. I popped it in my basket without a second thought and made my purchase.

Once again Botanics did not disappoint. It literally does what it says on the tin and is ‘ultra-light, absorbs in seconds, hydrates’ and of course comes out as a moisture mist when sprayed from the can.

I would recommend this product for the gym bag, as the can itself is quite lightweight and this product is a quick and easy way to moisturise after just jumping out of the shower. As the moisture mist absorbs quickly, it means you don’t have to wait around before getting dressed and the easy spray application makes it much easier than rubbing on moisturiser.

The fragrance is fresh and mild, so prefect for day to day use.

March has been a super busy month for me. With lots of early mornings, late nights and plenty of travelling (which I mostly utilized as nap time), I’ve had no time at all for blogging. However, as always I managed to capture many of my moments on camera and so here is a look at some of my month (March) in pictures.

  • What I Got Up To On Valentine’s Day

What I Got Up To On Valentine’s Day

I’d been dying to see the David Hockney: Early Reflections exhibition for months, so when the boyfriend said that for Valentine’s day he’d booked us a hotel in Liverpool so that we could go to the gallery and also make a night of it, I was more than excited.

We traveled up to Liverpool on Valentine’s Day and once there we spent some of the afternoon going round the shops before retreating from the worsening weather and heading to a bar. We did the touristy thing and went to the Cavern for a few drinks. Although I’ve been to Liverpool an uncountable amount of times, I’d never even been there so it was good to finally go. It got to early evening time and we decided to go straight for a meal, after which we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the night. That night we went out into the center of Liverpool for cocktails and had a great time.

A picture of me the next morning in our messy hotel room.
    Samio Hotel Indigo Liverpool

We were up and out early the next morning. We found Moose Coffee just round the corner from our hotel and so we decided to go in for breakfast. My eyes popped out of my head when I saw the menu and suddenly I had a craving for everything on it. I’m not usually one to get excited over breakfast but the options seemed endless and all equally appealing. In the end we both opted for Lone Star Moose, which consisted of ‘minute steak, gourmet chipolata sausages, homemade potato hash, two free range Moose style over easy eggs and a griddled tomato. Served with warm toast and Dijon mustard’ and with me being the greedy bugger I am, I also opted for extra bacon with my order. Needless to say, it was amazing and we each ate every last bit on our plates. The great thing is, I found out that they more recently opened a Moose Coffee in Manchester, so I shall be definitely visiting there in the near future!

    Samio Moose Coffee

After breakfast we headed to the Walker Art Gallery, feeling more ready for a nap than ready to walk round a gallery but we powered on…

I was happy I finally got to see the David Hockney exhibition and I loved some of the work displayed. Unfortunately no pictures could be taken in the David Hockney exhibition but we did get this snap of me looking at this amazing oil painting (in another part of the gallery) by Ged Quinn, titled The Exiled Forever Coming in to Land. This iPhone photo doesn’t do it justice but it is an amazing piece of art which I couldn’t stop staring at.
Samio The Exiled Forever Coming In To Land by Ged Quinn 2010
There was so much to see in the Walker Gallery, we would have stayed longer if it wasn’t for our slowly looming hangovers creeping in from the night before and the bags that were weighing down our shoulders. We left early afternoon and headed home feeling content, full and ready for a rest before getting ready to celebrate my Mother’s birthday later that evening.
