How To Elevate Your Everyday Look

Thomas Sabo Bracelet Little Secret Disc and Glam Spirit Watch

    From Simple To Chic

As you may already know, when it comes to my everyday dressing, I like to keep my style pretty simple. I have my go to basics and a selection of versatile pieces that I like to mix and match. So for me I find accessorising a great way to easily add to these everyday looks and I love how the right pieces of jewellery can instantly elevate an otherwise basic outfit.

In more recent years I’ve moved away from the dress jewellery I was once fond of and I now prefer investing in a selection of more timeless pieces that I know will really help to improve each outfit I wear.

The latest additions to my jewellery selection are these beautiful pieces from Thomas Sabo. When it comes to Ladies watches Thomas Sabo know how to make classic yet visually stunning time pieces that make a statement. I was instantly drawn to this absolutely gorgeous gold coloured watch, with its eye-catching radiant royal blue face. A watch like this can easily transform any outfit and the way the blue face shimmers as it catches the light, means it won’t go unnoticed when you’re wearing it either.

Thomas Sabo also have an amazing selection of gold bracelets for women. I like to wear more delicate pieces alongside a more standout piece, like the gold watch. The Little Secrets bracelets are the perfect compliment to one of the more bolder watches and it’s a way to easily accessories, as you can stack and build these as your collections grows. For me I love how simple yet elegant this bracelet is and even when worn alone it’s a great way to accessories with minimal effort.

It’s amazing how even some of my old and most worn wardrobe favourites are given a new lease of life with the right accessories. I’ve had this white blazer for around four years now and to be honest I still amaze myself with how I’ve managed to keep it white for so long, because I do wear it a lot. I feel like a plain piece like this works really well with the gold accents and especially the striking blue watch face. Thrown on altogether, along with a grey Tee with some jeans, it gives it an effortless yet chic feel, which I love.

How do you like to try and elevate your everyday look? Are you a fan of accessorising?

  • Dressing Up The Basics

    Dressing Up The Basics

I mentioned in a recent post how I’d ‘fallen out of love with shopping’ in the typical sense (as in acquiring new pieces impulsively) and since strategically downsizing my wardrobe, I wasn’t joking when I said I’ve taken things back to basics. My wardrobe now consists of a selection of basics that I find easy to mix, match and style, whilst being comfortable to wear, even when dressing up.

    White Blazer Outfit

You’ll see me wearing these black skinny Topshop jeans on repeat and I’ve already mentioned my love affair with these mules from Clarks…

There are a few pieces that I have kept in my wardrobe however, that don’t seem as obviously wearable, like this white double breasted blazer for instance. This is one of the pieces that had been neglected in my previously over stuffed wardrobe and now that I’m down to only a few jackets, this is the one that I tend to go for when I want to dress up my outfit slightly and I’m pleased to say that recently I’ve been getting a lot of wear out of it. I’m currently on the hunt for the perfect black blazer, which is proving slightly more difficult than I had imagined (tall girl problems) but there’s no rush, as for now this white one is serving me well during the summer.

I wore this outfit the other week to the opening of the Vogue 100: A Century of Style exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery, where I’d kindly been invited along to preview the exhibition with a private tour. It was a fabulous event and the exhibition is great, as those of you who already saw it in London will know. So if you’re in Manchester I definitely recommend that you check the exhibition out, it’s free and it’s on until the end of October.

  • Triple Denim

I’m currently loving denim, in fact, for the most part of this year it’s been a re-occurring theme in the majority of my outfits. But then denim does go with just about anything right?

Again, another very ‘mix & match’ denim piece has been added to my wardrobe and it’s this black denim Pieces jacket from online boutique Dizen. When asked if I’d like to pick out one of their items, I was instantly drawn to this denim jacket, as I’d been on the hunt for a black one for a while. It’s one of those easy to style pieces and as it’s black, it means it’s very versatile when wearing it with other shades of denim.

    Black Denim Outfit

I guess you could call this a super safe way to wear triple denim (that’s right, not double but triple), as I went for black skinny jeans, my new denim jacket and I added an extra layer by wearing my old cropped washed denim jacket underneath. The result is something that isn’t as scary as it sounds and the layering aspect adds a nice touch whilst actually being rather practical with the current weather here in England.

I’ve never been one to love ironing (let’s face it, who does) and it’s often even more annoying when you’ve spent time ironing out creases for them to miraculously reform after two minutes of having worn a garment. Although it’s often unavoidable, it’s usually something that really irritates me. However, this time I decided to fully embrace the ‘just threw on some clothes’ look, and go for a slouchy smart/casual ensemble. A half tucked in white shirt with a few buttons undone and rolled up cuffs, made a more casual outfit out of my skinny jeans and patent loafers. I feel like I need more slouchy cardigans in my life because this one has served me well and always comes in handy when I want to throw on an extra layer on without needing something as heavy as a coat.

Black Biker Jacket & Skinny Jeans

The older I get, the more I realise that it’s some of the simplest things that make me the happiest, like spending time with loved ones and enjoying every good moment (however small), or on this particular occasion, having an afternoon with a couple of my besties whilst chatting away over cups of tea and coffee…

    Topshop black Jamie Jeans

The sun was shining for once in Manchester (or there were blue skies at least) and although maybe a little premature, I decided to brave it with a slightly less layered outfit, having only my faux fur scarf for added warmth. I have to admit, it was a little breezy on the ankles wearing cropped skinnies and my favourite Clarks loafers but it felt nice to get out of boots and opt for something a little different. I can now confirm that spring isn’t here just yet and it may not quite be time to ditch the layers but the blue skies are certainly getting me excited for longer days and milder months. Yes to more daylight!

  • Planning a Capsule Wardrobe

    Planning a Capsule Wardrobe

I’m currently in the process of downsizing my wardrobe… I say this but my actual wardrobe storage space is due to expand as my our plan for one of the rooms in mine and my boyfriend’s new house is to create a closet space (or walk in wardrobe if you like). This is an absolute girlhood dream come true for me, having a room dedicated to clothes! However, since starting to plan the space and trying to figure out what I want to do with it, I’ve realized one thing I don’t envisage is clutter.

For as long as I can remember I’ve loved to shop and accumulating new things is something I’m very good at. What I’ve noticed recently though is that quantity over quality is not always the best thing and I’m starting to re-evaluate my shopping habits and want to really think about the items that I buy and own. I think that moving to a new house is forcing me to think about the items that I really value and want to bring into a newly refurbished and uncluttered space.

I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a capsule wardrobe. This is something that’s still very new to me and people who know me would laugh at the thought of me surviving with a minimal amount of items in my wardrobe (hello, self confessed shopping addict over here). However it’s just something I feel I should at least think about. I’m already beginning my much needed clothing/shoe/accessory clear out and so whilst browsing online the other day, I thought I’d put together a sample capsule wardrobe that I’d maybe like to create (or take ideas from) for this coming Autumn…

I feel that the more I plan, the more I’m starting to think seriously about permanently downsizing my wardrobe, it would certainly help me a lot when getting dressed in the morning.

Have you ever thought about creating a capsule wardrobe for each season? What are some pieces that you would include?

  • White Ripped Skinny Jeans & The Camel Twist Top

White Ripped Skinny Jeans & The Camel Twist Top

Recently I’ve been a bit daring with some of my clothing choices and for me a pair of white skinnies make no exception. Okay, so this is far from the most off the wall outfit ever (especially compared to some of the crazy prints I’ve worn), however for me, wearing white always takes a bit of courage. I’m known for being quite clumsy and wearing the most strain prone shade ever is never usually a good choice for me. Lately though, I’ve not been doing too badly and after recently wearing a white dress and managing to stay stain free for the day, I decided to jump on board the white jean trend and get myself a pair.

Aside from the fact of being scared of stupidly spilling something on my lap whilst wearing white, I was actually worried that these jeans may have been a bit see through. Luckily enough however, I was happy to find that they are surprisingly non transparent and my fear of unwillingly showing my underwear has diminished.

To go with my new white skinnies I went for this camel coloured twist front top and these fabulous lazer cut out faux leather heels.

I absolutely love these shoes and although you can’t see it here, they actually wrap and tie around the ankle which makes them look so elegant. I can’t wait to rock them with a cute dress.

I think I need another month of not eating meat as since going back to my carnivorous ways, I’ve not stopped eating burgers. With so many great burger joints in Manchester though, it’s often rather hard to resist. On Friday I met up with the boyfriend after work and after going for a few drinks around The Northern Quarter, we ended up in Solita for a meal.

It was my first time at Solita, so I wanted to try as much as I could by getting starters and mains (any excuse). To start we went for the Buffalo Wings and the Deep Fried Mac ‘n’ Cheese Balls to share. The wings of course were splendid and the Mac ‘n’ Cheese Balls were delicious, I only wished there were more of them.

solita DEEP FRIED MAC N CHEESE BALLS

For the main, Damien went for the Catalan burger; Consisting of grilled chorizo, roasted red peppers, pepperjack cheese, roasted tomato aioli, nicely presented with a padron pepper skewer. I went for the Manc-Hattan burger; Consisting of pastrami, melted Lancashire cheese, fried black pudding, Lancashire sauce and Coney Island mustard. Both were served with skinny fries and we went halfs on our burgers (because I really wanted to try Damien’s Cajun burger). I loved both burgers but my favourite was the Manc-Hattan burger. I would rate it high up there on the burger scale in terms of creativeness and taste. We washed our meals down, with red wine for me and a beer for Damien. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious, so I’m sure I will be back again soon.
