Two New Additions & A Spring Wardrobe Update

    Ready For Something New

Through January and February I managed to purchase only one new item of clothing and that was a much needed, very practical, padded coat for my trips to Hamburg and Oslo. I guess you can say that purchase was more out of necessity than being an actual style choice, but I was definitely glad of it when I was out in below minus temperatures.

Whilst I had been quite happy with my wardrobe over winter, living mostly in a selection of roll necks and go to layers, I’ve been feeling rather eager to have a bit of a wardrobe update recently, ready for Spring/Summer.

Now you’ll know I’m not often one to jump on trends, longevity and wearability are always factors I take into account when acquiring new pieces. However I’ve been wanting to inject a bit of ‘fun’ into my wardrobe lately, as I feel I’ve exhausted my outfit combos over the winter period and have been feeling a desire for something new.

When Pinko reached out to me asking if I’d like to pick out a few pieces, it was perfect timing. When I spotted this new Pinko Love bag in their SS17 collection, it was just the sort of thing I’d been looking for. It’s fun and a bit out there, whilst still fitting in with my colour palette of muted tones. Most importantly I knew it would go well with denim, which means I can wear it with about 90% of my wardrobe.

You’ll likely be seeing a lot more of this bag in my future outfit posts as you know I like to wear things to death, plus it says ‘Love Me Tender’ on the side, which is very fitting considering I’m a big Elvis fan! I think I’ve made it clear that I love this bag (no pun intended). It’s trashy and fabulous at the same time, whilst still being very me and it’s nice to add a new piece to my wardrobe that I feel excited about.

    Samio Manchester Blogger

The second new addition is this jacket which is also from Pinko. I love a good denim jacket and the fact that last summer I wore my black one almost everyday meant that I knew I’d get plenty of wear out of this one as it begins to warm up. I also love that the jacket is in this oatmeal shade, which I think is a nice contrast to my blue denim jeans and I think makes a great combination.

Now I’m on the look out for a few tops to add to my wardrobe, as I feel a decent selection of light weight spring/summer T-shirt and tops is what I’m seriously lacking at the moment and this grey Asos T-shirt you see here gets worn A LOT. I’d also like to incorporate a couple of dresses into the mix this coming summer, as although I’m sure my love for jeans will never die, I’m keen to change things up and bare some leg as the weather hots up too.

All in all I’m very excited for the change in seasons. Lighter mornings, longer days, milder weather and lighter layers, what’s not to look forward to!

    Making dreams a reality

We’ve all had hopes, dreams and thoughts of becoming something in particular at certain points in our life. Many of us still do and some of us actually have become those things that we’ve always dreamed of.

The thing that is important to remember when it comes to actually placing ourselves in these particular roles that we wish for ourselves in life, is that strong desire alone isn’t purely enough to get us there. We also need to act upon these desires in order to get us to where we want to be. I’m sure this all sounds pretty obvious but so many times I’ve seen people mix up intention with action, myself included (and on many occasions).

In the past I’d often sit and daydream about where I wanted to be, I’d even chat to friends about it, without actually making any progress in the process. To want something isn’t enough, you actually have to become it.

    Make your dreams a reality
Samio in black and white lingerie shot by Jess Petrie

Some things are easier said than done, of course, but I’ll use myself as an example with one of the things that I decided to ‘do’. I used to say that I’d like to do modelling but by saying it, it didn’t really get me anywhere until I actually started doing it. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t just get with an agency and start getting booked on jobs right away. Initially I started shooting with photography students who were building their portfolio, then established photographers and then eventually I got with my first agency and starting making a living from it. Regardless of which step of the process I was on, I was modelling from the beginning step and even though I didn’t label myself a model until I started actually working as one, there’s no denying that it was doing it from the off set that helped me to become it.

I’m well aware that this makes it all sound so easy, when you and I both know that it’s not. When it comes to pursuing something that we want in life, at the start it can often feel like there’s such a very long road ahead. I’m not going to deny it, there often is, but, if we never start on that road, we’ll never even begin to get there.

I know that life can get in the way. We have bills to pay, current roles to fulfil and other people in our lives to take care of, but we also need to give a little bit of that time to ourselves; To study, to write, to practice an art, to blog, or to work on whatever it is that we want to do.

You can talk about what you’ll do until you believe it will happen and others start to as well, and that’s fine, there’s nothing like self-assurance and moral support to help get us to where we want to be. But just remember, at the end of it all, you are what you do, not what you say you’ll do…So what are you waiting for?

    Good luck!

  • Prioritising Time

    Prioritising Time

    Photography by Rosie Butcher

    The Struggles Of A Procrastinator

I just watched a Ted Talk on How To Gain Control Of Your Free Time. It came at the most appropriate point as I’d planned to get to work on a blog post straight after it. Needless to say, it has sparked some inspiration for the topic of this post, as well as given me a much needed kick up the bum when it comes to thinking about working on my own time management.

I’ve always been somewhat of a procrastinator, if I’m honest. I can often become idle, working on meaningless tasks for long periods of times, or simply find myself not working at all, when I have more important things that I really wish to focus on.

I always say that you’ll prioritise what’s important to you, but my problem is often that I don’t. It’s easy to make excuses and say that we don’t have enough time but as that recent Ted Talk rightly highlighted, it’s usually just that we aren’t prioritising the time that we have in order to do the things that we would like.

The women from the Ted Talk uses a great example about prioritising time, she says ‘I could tell you I don’t have time to dust my blinds but that’s not true, if you offered to pay me $100,000 to go dust my blinds, I would get to it pretty quickly.’ Aside from the fact that I actually do dust my blinds (erm, what did I say about procrastination earlier), although she makes her point in a jokey manner, it’s still very much a clear one. We always have room to make some time for those things that are important to us, we just need to make them a priority.

Are you a fellow procrastinator or are you good at prioritising time for all the important things?

  • What To Wear In Lisbon

    What To Wear In Lisbon

Today I’m sharing the final look from my Lisbon trip, which I feel is long overdue, considering the trip was almost a month ago and now my next trip is in less than a week!

Anyway I’m still excited to share this look, as it was my favourite outfit of the trip and in this spot we found the perfect setting, with the blue tiled walls in the back, which complimented what I was wearing perfectly.

Before our travels I’d wondered what to wear in Lisbon, and more so, what to wear in Lisbon during the winter? I knew the weather was going to be milder than in England around this time and I was also aware that a lot of European cities tend to keep it pretty casual, which of course was fine by me.

I did pack heeled boots for the trip, just incase I wanted to step things up a notch in the evenings, however I found myself repeatedly reaching for my trusty Converse. In fact my friend L’Oréal and I both didn’t stop wearing our Converse and found ourselves ‘twinning it’ for the majority of the trip. We even wore our Converse for a night out, which was just as well, as we ended up dancing away until the early hours of the morning, which made it sheer bliss being heel-free.

    Denim Style blogger Outfit

Although we mostly kept it casual, that isn’t to say that we didn’t put some effort into our dressing. Being able to ditch several layers due to slightly better weather, got me excited to re-work some of my outfit favourites. You will see me repeatedly rocking my Mint Velvet 3 in 1 coat back home but it had been a while since I’d be able to wear it sleeveless. It worked perfectly with this Topshop shirt. Although I’ve been wearing this shirt quite frequently, I haven’t had much chance to show off the wonderful sleeves on it whilst out and about, as they are usually covered up by the sleeves of my coat. I felt the two pieces worked perfectly together and I can’t wait to team them together agin when the weather starts to warm up a little at home.

Finally, a quick note about the jeans. They are of course my favourite go to Farleigh style from Asos (which I wear repeatedly) but you may have noticed the slightly lighter shade of denim. That is of course because I decided to add a third pair to my wardrobe, which I actually featured here. However I since decided to cut the hem off the bottom, which I’m very glad I did because I think it changed them up a little bit.

Anyway, that’s all for now. It’s surprising how much you can waffle on about one outfit but if you’d like to hear more about my Lisbon trip you can check out my travel guide here.

  • 3 Ways To Stay Motivated When You Really Can’t Be Bothered

3 Ways To Stay Motivated When You Really Can’t Be Bothered

    Keeping Fit At Home

This past month I’ve really been enjoying working out and getting back into the routine of keeping fit from home. There’s no better way to keep myself motivated than a push in the right direction and so when CollectPlus asked me to share the ways in which I stay motivated to work out, I thought now was perfect timing.

I don’t know about you, but for me, the second month into the year always seems to be the hardest when it comes to keeping myself motivated with my fitness. I then have to remind myself that I’ll feel much better if I just keep at it. So here are some of the ways that I help myself to do just that…

    1. Change Things Up & Try Something New

Workout videos on Youtube have been my thing this past month. I have a few favourites which I like to alternate and whilst they are fun, you can actually feel them working (check out my playlist of favourites here). I do know however that if I do too much of the same thing, I will soon grow bored and so to changed things up a little I decided to order some home workout equipment.

I did of course have the equipment delivered via CollectPlus, which is an absolute game changer by the way, especially if you’re like me and sometimes out till late. It’s good because you can have your parcels delivered to your local shop, or in my case, to the petrol station. It’s open until very late, meaning I can pick up my parcels much more conveniently. It was of course perfect in this case because you know the post man wasn’t about to fit a stepper machine and flexbell through the letter box.

I always loved using weights to do ab workouts in the gym and so I thought the flexbell would be perfect for reintroducing some of my old workouts at home, to change things up a little. With the stepper machine I thought this would be perfect for when I’m feeling super lazy because I can actually use it whilst watching TV, so there are actually no excuses!

    Twist Stepper

    2. Create A Workout Playlist

When I think back to when I used to go to the gym, I remember the thing that would motivate me most whilst working out was music. I actually remember the odd occasion when I’d forget my earphones and I’d be so annoyed, as I knew that I would quickly lose focus and those were always the occasions when I’d cut my workout routine short.

I’ve been wanting to get back into running outdoors for a while and I’ve slowly been building up to it this past month with long, brisk walks. I’ve now decided to finally create a playlist full of some of my old workout favourites that will be perfect to keep me motivated whilst I’m running.

    3. Set Yourself A Challenge

I find setting myself challenges a great way to motivate myself, as I always feel determined to complete them. I’ve found it works best when you break things down. So for me personally, giving myself a different challenge month by month is the best way to do it. That way it breaks things up and I can actually see the finish line to each challenge too.

I also think it helps to be realistic, so give yourself a challenge which you actually believe to be achievable. For example I might say that during February that I want to workout at least three times per week and one of those workouts has to include a 5k run (just an example but actually not a bad idea). It’s basically just another way of setting goals, but by calling it a challenge and giving myself a time frame to complete it in makes me much more determined to do it…So what are we waiting for, let’s set ourselves some challenges!

Those are three of the ways I like to stay motivated when I really can’t be bothered to work out. Just writing this blog post has given me another boost of motivation to be honest, so maybe that’s another one in itself; Writing a list of ways to motivate yourself, so that you actually start to feel motivated again. I also have to remind myself that I always feel great after working out, so why quit now! I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, however little you do, it’s always better to do something rather than nothing if you’re hoping to keep active and keep at it.

I hope this blog post could help to give you a little boost of motivation. Just remember not to put too much pressure on yourself, have fun with it and find what works best for you! I’d love to hear some of the ways you help yourself to stay motivated when you really can’t be bothered. Comment below and let me know!

  • A Not So Blue Monday & A Lisbon Look

A Not So Blue Monday & A Lisbon Look

Oh hello first blog post of 2017! I’m a little late to the party, I know, but sometimes it takes me a while to get back into the swing of things…Anyway, today I’m feeling very contented (however tired) after a weekend away in Lisbon with my friend L’Oréal.

Today is apparently meant to be Blue Monday (supposedly the most depressing day of the year for us Brits), but for me I’m feeling very much the opposite and I have to admit having just had one of the most fun city breaks away might have something to do with it.

I’ve realised that one of my favourite things to do is travel. Strangely not in the sense of leaving home for six months to live somewhere afar (I’m far too much of a lover of my home for that), but I definitely enjoy the excitement of hopping on a plane for a weekend, or a week, or two away, to experience a different part of the world and try somewhere new.

After returning home from a trip abroad I’m always left feeling so happy that I’ve been able to experience another part of the world and make memories with some of my favourite people as well as meeting new people along the way.

This year I plan to do a lot more travelling and I’m happy to say that I already have a few more trips planned out, which is ideal because nothing sparks wanderlust in me more than a trip away in the first place.

Lisbon certainly kicked off the first trip of the year on the high and you can expect to see a photo heavy blog post all about my trip here once I’ve gone through all 915 photos on my camera, and how ever many more I took on my phone (yes, we got very snap happy).

For now I’ll share with you one of my outfits from the weekend away, which is this (you guessed it) casual and comfy ensemble…and I have to say I’m very glad that I made my Converse my footwear of choice for this trip because Lisbon has a lot of hilly cobbled streets, so practical footwear was a must!

  • A Life Update & Some New Jeans

A Life Update & Some New Jeans

    Welcome Back

It’s been well over a month since I last shared an outfit post here on my blog and whilst things have been pretty quite over here lately, behind the scenes things have been quite the opposite. After a bit of a lull I feel I’m finally back in my creative zone.

Whilst I haven’t been very active here, if you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel you’ll see I’ve been sticking to my schedule over there at least. I’ve really gotten back into it lately and I’m continuing to feel inspired to keep making new and creative content. As well as working on my own stuff I’ve also been busy creating content for some really cool brands and it’s been so much fun to take on new challenges as work takes me down new and exciting routes. Along with that, modelling work, birthday celebrations, events and continued house renovations I’ve been keeping pretty busy…But, I don’t plan on neglecting my blog for too much longer (she says for the 100th time). If you’re familiar with my space over here, you’ll notice it’s had a little bit of a revamp and long overdue too. I couldn’t spend all that time doing up our house and not give my little blog some T.L.C too…

So here it is. The new and improved samio.co.uk – I hope you like it! I could waffle on about all the things you can expect to come from me over here in the new year but I expect much of the same and more…and hopefully I’ll get back to being a little more consistent too!

    Onto The Outfit Post

    [show_shopthepost_widget id=”2241188″]

Anyway, enough with the rambling life updates. You’ll see I’ve traded in my well loved and used Whistles tote bag with a little black All Saints number. I’ve had it for around two months now and I have to say that I love it. It’s my new everyday bag, so expect to be seeing this one alongside lots more outfits to come.

The jeans are new, sort of. Yep, you may have spotted I’ve gone for a pair of Farleigh jeans AGAIN, this time in a lighter stonewash. Now I have three different (the same) pairs of jeans that I can wear on repeat. I do tend to live in my Fairleigh slim fit mom jeans as you may already know.

And the shoes…I featured these in an Autumn Asos haul over on my YouTube, as I was updating my wardrobe for autumn with a few much needed essentials. These boots made it onto the keep pile and you guessed it, I’ve been wearing them a lot. They are also really comfortable to walk around in.

  • Clothing Comforts & Layering

    Clothing Comforts & Layering

Yesterday was one of those days…What started off as a not so good day, turned out to be a pretty good day. I’ve been having some technical difficulties with filming lately which has caused me to get behind with my filming schedule and after a morning of attempting to film and things not going my way, I decided to call it a day (or should I say morning). I headed out of the house in time for a meeting I had in town, after which I met up with my friend Chloe (who also kindly took these shots) for a much needed catch up. It’s funny how petty frustrations can dampen your mood and then all it takes is some fresh air and a catch up with one of your besties over a pot of tea to help lift your spirits.

    minimal style blogger

Anyway, yesterday’s outfit was all about comfort and warmth (it’s really getting chilly here now). If you read my last post you’ll remember how I talked about ‘creating a uniform’ and having specific clothes to go to on days that you just want to be comfortable, whilst still looking moderately well dressed…Well this is one of those outfits. This roll neck jumper I’ve had since last winter and I’ve been excited to pull it out because I know I get so much wear out of it during the colder months…and of course it goes perfectly with my most lived in jeans.

    autumn winter layering outfit

I was really in the mood to feel cosy yesterday and so I opted for layering my new 3 in 1 Mint by Mint Velvet coat (with the jacket part removed to make it gilet style) underneath my trusty hairy wool Asos coat – another gem which I’ve been excited to pull out from last winter.

    navy sleeveless coat mint velvet

It’s my second time layering this combo and I rather like it. It means that when I go inside somewhere and take off my outer coat, I’m still left with a second layer to give me that added bit of warmth whilst looking (imo) kind of cute too.

  • Casual & Comfortable But Never Badly Styled

Casual & Comfortable But Never Badly Styled

In today’s post I want to talk about looking well styled even on those super causal days when you want nothing more than to just be comfortable. Of course by ‘well styled’, I’m not talking about anything fancy here, if you know my blog, then you’ll know I like to keep it simple…We all have those days where looking good may be our last priority until we step out of the house and wish we’d made a little more effort. So, for those days, I’m sharing my three tips to help you avoid the style disaster and still keep it cool whilst being casual and comfortable.

    topshop black jamie jeans

Remove The ‘House Clothes’ From Your Everyday Wardrobe

If you have no intention of going out in your ‘round the house’ sweat pants, then don’t risk the temptation of throwing them on before quickly nipping out to run errands, by storing them with your jeans (and other outdoor bottoms). You know it’s always the day that you decide to wear these things that you bump into an old school friend that you haven’t seen in years or you end up in a situation where you really wish you’d made the slightest bit more effort, but alas, we’ve all been there. By taking the things we don’t intend to wear out and about, out of our wardrobe, we don’t run the risk of wearing them, simple.

    black denim jacket

    Shop Strategically

When shopping it’s always important to think about function as well as style. Even if you’re quite a dressy person, there are still likely days where you want to just be comfy and casual and if you don’t have the right pieces in your wardrobe, these will likely be the times you’ll find yourself reaching for those sweat pants! *Don’t do it girl!*…Whether your style is dressy, causal, or a bit of both, it’s always good to take into consideration your surroundings and day to day life when you shop. If you walk a lot then maybe invest in a decent pair of trainers that are both comfortable and look good. If you live somewhere cold think about the kind of layers you can style and wear on a regular basis. Practicality planning really does help and that way you’ll know you have pieces in your wardrobe that are perfect for those minimal effort days.

    samio

    Create A Lazy Day Uniform

Comfortable doesn’t have to mean ‘ugly’ or ‘unstylish’. My comfiest jeans for instance are actually my most worn, easy to style and most complimented jeans (you will have seen me praise and wear my Asos farleigh jeans in plenty of blog posts)…I think what helps most is knowing what to wear and when, so that on days when you don’t feel like putting any effort whatsoever into an outfit, you’re still able to throw on that comfortable yet previously thought out look. That way you can still feel comfortable and happy with how you’re dressed even on the laziest of days.

6 Things I Did On My Beach Holiday

I’m back from the Greek island of Kos, after a week away that I can only describe as relaxed, peaceful and self-indulgent. I allowed myself to fully wind down and do a few things that I very rarely get to do…

    sensimar oceanis beach and spa

    I Switched Off

I put my phone onto airplane mode for the majority of the trip. By the middle of the trip (and strategically timed on a Saturday), I couldn’t help but check my emails (just incase), as being self employed gives you the fear of missing out on work anytime you decide to ‘switch off’, which is usually never in my case. I did however allow myself to wait to reply to emails after I returned home – any guesses what I’ll be doing today?

    I Sunbathed

For the first time in years I actually lay in the sun, not under the shade or wrapped in layers, and I fully let the sun bronze my skin – whilst covered in head to toe factor 50 of course – don’t get me started on skin protection.

    I Swam in the Sea

I actually got to do this once whilst still in England over the summer but it had been a long time since I dipped into the sea whilst abroad…and lets face it, it’s always better swimming in the sea in a country that has a much warmer climate than the UK.

I ate a ridiculous amount of cheese

Okay so this is something I tend to do a lot whilst at home as well – hello, my favourite food is pizza! – But I wouldn’t usually opt for cheese with breakfast, lunch and dinner…But there was just so much of it and I couldn’t stop myself. I’m talking edam and cheddar for breakfast, pizza and feta for lunch and after dinner cheese and crackers with blue cheese every night. Yep, I’m going on a dairy free detox.

    I Read a Book

I finally got to read the book that I’d meant to finish a long while ago. I’d bought A Little Life for my flights to Cape Town earlier this year and then found myself occupied watching the entire final series of Downton Abbey, along with a selection of old movies on the plane instead…Fast forward to a week ago and I finally picked it back up again and found myself hooked. In fact I found myself crying at the end. Actual tears, which was a bit embarrassing whilst sat in the hotel lobby but I definitely recommend the read, even if it may leave you a little heart broken.

I thought of nothing and did nothing

With an overactive brain like mine, that is somewhat impossible, but I did manage to zone out from the rest of the world (airplane mode definitely helped) and not think about the usual things that may rattle through my brain. I barely thought about my blog and didn’t even feel bad about not posting on social media. Sometimes it’s nice to switch off…It was also nice just being really lazy.
